Replacing $1 bill with coin could save $5.6 billion
A proposal to phase out the $1 bill and replace it with a $1 coin could be gaining currency as the “supercommittee” looks to find ways to save the government money.

Canadian here just to say that dollar and two dollar coins are the shit. I was in San Francisco this fall wishing I had coin change rather than fiddling with paper bills that blend in with receipts and I can’t tell a $1 from a fifty. Plus ripped up dollar bills + machines don’t mix. You generally don’t have that problem with loonies and toonies.
And if they can save the government money, hey why not!
